Dr. William Perry: (Lower Level) The Biggs family from Hartsville operated the first grocery store at this location. They also built the two-story house adjacent to Hazel Stone's home on Highway 145 N. John Russell and Suellyn McLain returned to Chesterfield and lived there for a number of years. Hazel Stone's daughter Debbie married John and Suellyn's son Johnny, and they live in the home today. Sam Presson had the grocery store next, followed by Milton Thomas. The Bank of Chesterfield moved there after the grocery store was closed.
(Upper Level) Dr. Walter Wiley and Dr. J. E. Turner had offices on the upper level.

Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: I well remember the grocery stores in town in the mid-century because my father was the owner of one. I don't remember when the Bigg's Grocery was at this location, but I do remember that Sam Presson was here twice. He moved his grocery store, People's Grocery, from the south side where Woodmen of the World office is now to this location. He then moved it to the end of the street where Larry Knox's law office is. Dewey Stokes worked for him at all his locations. When Sam moved to the west end of Main Street, Milton Thomas (Capt. Welsh's son-in-law) opened City Grocery in this building. When he went to work for the SC Tax Commission, Sam Presson moved back to this location. I don't remember which name he used then-People's or City.

On the upper level Dr. Walter R. Wiley's office was all the way at the back facing the Craig Park area. He also had the use of the rooms on both sides of the hall adjoining the back area. It was here that I had a tonsilectomy at age 5.
On the left at the top of the stairs was the dentist office of Dr. J. E. Turner. On the right at the top of the stairs was the accounting office of Dan Laney. My husband, Charles W. Rivers, along with Joan "Tot" Douglas (later Huntley), Ellen Deese (later Crawford), and Lib Davis Price worked for Dan. Beyond Dan's office was the Selective Service office where Bernice Ballard Griggs and Peg Douglas Griggs worked. I can remember going to talk to them when I went to Dr. Wiley's office as a child.
When "Bubba" Hough died and his son Bill took over Hough Insurance, the agency was moved to the upper level at this site. "Bubba" had operated the agency from his office at the Bank of Chesterfield.

James W. Jenkins: The Town of Chesterfield moved their administrative offices to this location in 2006. The Town is goverened by a Mayor and Council. A number of individuals have served as Mayor over the years.
