Welborn Pusser Dry Goods Davis Cafe J. Arthur Knight Law Office Chesterfield Pool Hall Farm Bureau 1960 - 1971 Jones Real Estate |
Dr. William Perry: Mr. J. Arthur Knight had his law office at this location for a number of years.
James W. Jenkins: Mr. Knight was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The University of South Carolina at the time of his death. This building also housed the Farm Bureau from 1960 - 1971. Billy Duvall was the office manager. Charles D. Rivers: This was a pool hall at one time. Perry Hurst operated it at first, and my cousin, Jimmy Brooks, later operated it. Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: Johnny A. Davis told me that his father, "Fuzzy" Davis, owned a cafe at this location. One of his employees was my uncle, Wilson L. Teal. They offered curb service at the cafe. Pete Zounis ran a cafe here before he moved up the street. Later, Mr. "Fuzzy" moved his cafe to where the Farm Bureau is today at 132 Main Street. Mr. "Fuzzy" gave it the Royal Cafe name which lasted through several owners. Also, Hugh Pusser's father, Welborn Pusser, opened a dry goods store in this building. Before moving here, he had worked for his father, H. W. Pusser, in the dry goods store down the street at 152 Main Street (building occupied by Kevin Lear on Main today). |
