Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: I remember when Hildreth Middleton owned this station. I was part of a crowd of hundreds who gathered at this corner to celebrate the day WW II ended. I was only 8 years old, but all the shouting and the continuous blowing of the fire siren are vivid memories for me. Julian Curtis ran this station before he moved to the By-Pass. Scott Owen told me that others who owned a station here were Harry Goldsmith, Melvin Campbell, and his father, Jim Owen. |
