Scott Owen: This was the site of the Melton homeplace. Ted Melton, Sr. grew up here.

Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: Ervin M. and Jennie Streater Melton were the parents of Ted Melton, Sr. He and his siblings grew up here. The Meltons were the grandparents of Ted Melton, Jr., Eugenia Pearl Melton, and Sybil Melton Moseley.

I remember when Dorothy and Mary Ruth Ratliff, sisters of Stanley Ratliff and Gloria Ratliff Vernon, lived here. Al Clark and Janice Campbell Rivers also lived in these apartments. Virginia Harris Campbell sold her house further up on West Main Street after her husband died and moved here.

James W. Jenkins: Buck Branch, who lived on Crescent Drive just behind these apartments, built the apartments in the late 40’s or early 50’s. Coach J. O. Teal lived here while coaching in Chesterfield (49-51). I recall that Coach Carl Adams lived in the apartment on the right. It was here on October 3, 1951, that I saw Bobby Thompson hit his dramatic home run in the third game of the playoffs between the Giants and Dodgers to give the Giants a 5 to 4 victory. I think Coach Adams lived here from 1952 - 1954.
