James W. Jenkins: This was the Bessie Lee Mangum Jenkins house from 1984 till her death in 2005. My mother celebrated her 91st birthday in 2005 while living here. The house was designed and owned by Carl and Kathryn Jenkins Nichols and was built by Dwight Mungo from Pageland. Mama's home served as a family gathering place the Saturday after Thanksgiving for all the time she lived here. It was her favorite time of the year, and based on what the children tell me, it was their favorite time as well. This location provided a safe (except for her stolen car), comfortable place for her to live. She loved her neighbors and the many friends who dropped by regularly. We reluctantly parted with the house that served as our Chesterfield base for so many years. The house was purchaed by Scott and Lisa Gaskins Smith who live there today. |
