| James R. Rasco - 09/17/2003 Elizabeth CROWLEY and unk husband I am seeking information on the unknown husband of Elizabeth (RASCO/ROSCOE) CROWLEY. The following was taken from "Freedman's Bureau Ration Book, May - September 1866, Darlington County, South Carolina" as transcribed by Scott Wilds of Philadelphia, Pa." 172. ELIZABETH CROWLEY, white, widow, is 52 years old. Lives in CHESTERFIELD, 9 miles from CHERAW on stage road running to Camden. Lives with her mother named MINDA RASCO, 98 years old, on CREUSLARR's [?] PLACE. Has about one acre of Corn and Potatoes, ect. Has no stock of any sort. Issued for ten (10) days. Certificate of merit signed by Mr. Stephen H. Parker." I am of the opinion that this Elizabeth CROWLEY is the same person as Elizabeth RASCO who was listed in the household of Hugh COKER in the 1860 census of Chesterfield County, page 99, dwelling and family number 76. The age given for her mother, Minda RASCO, is probably overstated by about 10 years in the Freedman's Bureau account book. Believe that Elizabeth was a sister of Oliver, Riley, Rachel, Marie, and Jane RASCO (ROSCOE). Questions: 1. What was the given name of the CROWLEY husband of Elizabeth? 2. When and where did they marry? 3. When and where did Elizabeth's husband died? 4. When and where did Elizabeth die? 5. Where are they buried? 6. Did they have any children? James R. Andrew Jackson CROWLEY was my Great, Great Grandfather. Early this year, before you update your website for 2005, I saw a posting for a CROWLEY Reunion to be held Sept. 12, 2004 at the Chesterfield Rescue Squad Building. I have been watching your site hoping to see a 2005 posting for the CROWLEY Reunion. Having seen no posting I decided to call the rescue squad to see if they could put me in touch with whom ever had scheduled their building. They were unable to help me. I am hoping that you will be able to tell me who posted the CROWLEY Reunion on your site, so that I may get in touch with them. Or if you prefer, give them my name, phone number and e-mail address: Carol Harpe Moody, 704-872-0559, cmoodym@peoplepc.com All of my Father's family is from the Chesterfield area and I am anxious to make contact with them. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreaciated. Thank you, Carol Harpe Moody Statesville, NC |
